SAP ATTP 2027: The Real Lesson Isn't About SAP. It's About Architecture.
For manufacturers on the NetWeaver-based platform, this is a real deadline. Roughly eighteen months remain to plan the move, revalidate integrations, and protect business continuity. That work should already be scoped. But the wider industry question is more interesting: should a national Track & Trace platform be disrupted when a technology vendor changes its roadmap?
SAP has announced that SAP ATTP running on NetWeaver (software component STTP 300) reaches end of maintenance on 31 December 2027. ATTP continues on the SAP S/4HANA technology stack, and SAP has published a conversion guide with supported migration paths.

But the wider industry question is more interesting: should a national Track & Trace platform be disrupted when a technology vendor changes its roadmap?
Architecturally, no. Operationally, not quite.
A Level 5 regulatory repository should never depend on any single vendor. Its role is to receive and validate submissions against a defined, versioned interface contract, one that is documented, published, and independent of whoever implements Level 4. Whether the sending system is SAP, TraceLink, Systech, or another platform is irrelevant to the regulator, provided the contract holds.
That is what lets a manufacturer upgrade, migrate, or replace its Level 4 system without triggering change on the regulatory side. It is precisely why standards exist: to protect interoperability while technology keeps moving.
Regulators still have a legitimate operational interest, however. When many manufacturers migrate within the same window, reporting continuity becomes a supervisory concern worth monitoring, even when the architecture itself is unaffected.
The lesson extends far beyond SAP. Every platform eventually evolves. Support lifecycles end. Architecture is what decides whether that becomes a routine upgrade or an industry-wide disruption.
The strongest Track & Trace ecosystems aren't built around vendors. They are built around standards, clean interface contracts, and robust architecture.
