A New Digital System to Monitor the Pharmaceutical Market in Algeria

In a new step to strengthen health security and ensure the stability of the pharmaceutical market, the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry, Wasim Kouidri, chaired a high-level coordination meeting dedicated to studying a project for an integrated information system to monitor the supply of the national market with pharmaceutical products.

This meeting, which was held on April 15, 2026, at the ministry headquarters, came in implementation of the instructions of the Prime Minister, Seifi Ghrib, with the participation of the High Commission for Digitalization, the Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, in addition to representatives from several security and statistical bodies.

During the meeting, a detailed presentation was given on the new digital platform that aims to accurately track the path of medicines, starting from production or importation, through distribution networks, and reaching pharmacies.

This system relies on collecting and analyzing data in real time, allowing a comprehensive view of the movement of medicines in the national market.

The system is also based on the mandatory periodic declaration of inventories, where manufacturers and importers are required to submit weekly reports including available quantities and those under processing.

Wholesale distributors are required to provide monthly data, which enhances transparency and limits any potential disruptions in supply.

In this context, the Minister of Pharmaceutical Industry confirmed that the ministry has activated a daily monitoring unit to supervise market supply, especially regarding essential medicines, with continuous analysis of indicators aimed at ensuring availability and rapid intervention when needed.

For its part, the High Commission for Digitalization stressed that this project will contribute to unifying the efforts of different sectors and provide accurate and reliable data that supports decision-making and improves the effectiveness of government interventions.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Post and Telecommunications highlighted the importance of this system as an integrated digital dashboard that enables tracking the flow of medicines and providing immediate guidance to ensure market stability.

This system is expected to represent a qualitative leap in the management of the pharmaceutical industry sector in Algeria by enhancing digitalization, improving governance, and ensuring the regular and safe availability of medicines to citizens.
