According to GS1 standards, serial numbers can be numeric or alphanumeric. Numeric-only serial numbers are acceptable as long as they are unique for each serialized item and comply with GS1 Application Identifier (21) requirements, which supports up to 20 alphanumeric characters. The chosen format should ensure proper identification and traceability throughout the supply chain.
