No place for unofficial codes in the pharmaceutical track & trace system

According to ALMAL news Dr Ali Algamrway The Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority announced that the total number of registered items is expected to reach approximately 201 imported products by the end of May, as part of the gradual expansion of the national pharmaceutical track and trace system.

Around 65 new pharmaceutical products will be added during April, followed by approximately 128 additional products in May, bringing the total number of items included from starting the pilot launch to nearly 201 by the end of May.

The Head of the Egyptian Drug Authority confirmed that these steps come in a clear timeline aimed at strengthening control over the pharmaceutical market and ensuring full traceability of products across all stages of the supply chain.

He emphasized that no unofficial or non-Egypt-specific codes will be allowed within the system, noting that any codes not compliant with the approved standards will be strictly rejected.

He also called on all stakeholders , including manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies , to refer to the Egyptian Drug Authority for verified information before taking any implementation steps, in order to avoid exposure to misleading or non-compliant practices that could result in financial losses.

It is worth noting that the Egyptian Drug Authority launched the pilot phase of the national pharmaceutical track and trace system in February, with the objective of tightening market control and supporting the growth of locally manufactured pharmaceutical exports.
